Model United Nations is a platform that simulates the conferences of the Model United Nations and its body organizations. At the official conference, participants will address given political and social issues as representative delegates, politicians, or public figures of nations around the world.

The United Nations supports Model UN simulations by building and maintaining strong links between the UN and Model UN participants. It does this by sharing first-hand knowledge about the work of the UN at Model UN conferences; providing guidance with organizers to create accurate and authentic simulations; and encouraging Model UN clubs to take concrete action to support UN values and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Recognizing the value of Model UN simulations across the globe in engaging young people with the initiatives and goals of the UN and garnering support for international cooperation; the General Assembly adopted Resolution 77/336 on “Model United Nations”.

Some basic Rules of Procedure of an MUN conference are:

  • General Speaker’s List (GSL): A platform where delegates will have 60 to 120 seconds to present their country’s stance and their view on the agenda.

  • Moderated Caucus: A platform where delegates dive deep into the agenda by discussing specific sup-topics within the agenda’s scope of debate.

  • Unmoderated Caucus: An informal platform where participants will discuss in an informal setting to create blocs, draft paperworks and negotiate for votes.

  • Draft Resolution: A document prepared by the committee during the end that comprises of the solutions delegates want to implement to solve the crisis in the given agenda.
